It could be recalled that 81 Division Nigerian Army led by the Lt. Col. O.E.O Osawe uprightly led the officers and men of the division through a rigorous election security duties. The Division was commended in our piece, THE HEROES OF DEMOCRACY for being just, upright, sincere, apolitical and neutral.
Having maintained their integrity throughout the electioneering, the Division through 81 Division Officers Mess will on Friday 15 December 2023 be having a Tombola Night to celebrate the inauguration in Epe. The event which took place at 81 Division Officers’ Mess, Epe Lagos state. Tombola as it is usually referred to in the military is a live game where lucky winners win lots of gift items after playing series of games.
Gift items worth millions of Naira was given to the winners of the events. Gifts items like a whooping One million Naira, live cow, refrigerator, irons, bag of rice and lots more while MC and other popular DJs was there to entertaining the audience at the event. Lagostrendtv also confirmed that there was a lots of food and drinks during the event.
The Civilian Chairman of the Officers' Mess,Epe,High Chief Charles Olufemi Keshinro, stated," Mess is a place where the Military men relax and for it to be lively,they decided to have honourary members of the Mess; so that they can use the opportunity to mingle with the civilians. Police is your friend,same as Soldiers, they are our friends" He said.
The Tombola Chairman,Hon. Ajisefini Ajibola,said," The coming together of Soldiers and Civilians tonight is to foster friendly relationship" He added that most of the food items and home used items to be won through Raffle Draw at the night were meant for the Civilians,to put smile on their faces. He however pointed out that Hon. Wale Raji,Hon. Abiodun Tobun,Hon. ( Princess) Surah Animashaun and Engr. Adeniyi Ogunsanya,contributed resources to the success of the nigh
He revealed that ,there is an arrangement involving the Chief of the Army Staff,Hon. Wale Raji,Hon. Abiodun Tobun,and HRM Oba Kamorudeen Animashaun,to return to the rightful owners the land fueling hatred between Soldiers and Civilians in Epe,this week.
Eze Ndigbo of Eredo LCDA,Igwe Amb. Dr. Fredinerd Agunuke PhD; a member of the Officer's Mess,Prince Wale Idowu,Mrs. Erinjogunola, also said the event was organized to allay the fear of Civilians and change their perception about Military,noting that they are not brutal as being seen by people of Epe. They urged them to accept them as human beings like them,while advising Soldiers to be more friendly and know their boundary as they relate with members of the Epe community.
However, the Supervisor for Budget Epe Local Government,Hon. Ekemode Afeez,who claimed the Soldiers at the night were very accommodating and friendly, has advised that
more should be done to effect good relationship between the Military men and Civilians in Epe,asides Tombola Night.
Both the Soldiers and Civilians played different games of Tombola and later moved to Raffle Draw,where an Officer of Federal Road Safety Corps( FRSC), ARCAO Baruwa Azeez,won the star prize of Cow and the prize next to it, a giant Washing - Machine,with a single pack of ticket bought at the rate of #15,000. Other items won by people at the night included,Bags of Rice, Electrical Appliances,Packs of Noodles,Vegetable Oil, Palm Oil, Duve,Packs of Juice and Soft Drinks,#100,000 Cash,just to mention but a few.
