The demolition of a perimeter fence at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu has led to the remand of two individuals by a magistrate court in the state’s capital. The incident, which occurred after armed thugs invaded the facility and destroyed a section of the fence, resulted in the arrest of several suspects who were subsequently handed over to the police by the Nigerian Air Force.
Following the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the custody of the accused individuals. They were arraigned before the magistrate court presided over by His Worship Apolonia Edeani. Mr. Jude Jonathan Emejulu, along with another individual and others at large, faced charges under Section 1 (3) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
Despite pleading not guilty, their repeated history of similar offenses against the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in the past led to the denial of their bail. Their counsel, Alex Amujiogu, made efforts to secure their release, but the court ruled in favor of remanding Mr. Emejulu and the other individual in the Enugu Correctional Center. The case file will be transmitted to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for further advice.
