The Lagos State Government has officially inaugurated the 5th Assembly of the Lagos Youth Parliament, reaffirming its commitment to youth-focused initiatives. With a pledge to allocate more resources and efforts towards youth-oriented programs, the government aims to foster a vibrant platform for the young generation.
The newly elected principal officers of the 5th Assembly of the Lagos State Youth Parliament include Soniregun Maria Itunuoluwa as Speaker, Prince Soyiga Samuel Adeshina as Deputy Speaker, Olasupo Jubril Adedimeji as Majority Leader, OJORA IYABODE RAFAT as Deputy Majority Leader, Arayemi Habeebullah ISHOLA as Chief Whip, and Adegbola Mubarak Dare as Deputy Chief Whip.
Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlede, the Commissioner of Youths and Social Development, delivered an inspiring speech at the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the significance of this event in shaping future leaders. Emphasizing transparency and meritocracy in the selection process, he underscored the administration's commitment to excellence and youth empowerment.
In a departure from tradition, interviews were conducted to ensure the selection of the most qualified and capable youths. This commitment reflects the government's determination to bring about positive change and set new standards for governance.
Addressing the assembly, Hon. Orekoya Abiodun, Chairman of the House Committee on Youths and Social Development, stressed the importance of preparing youth for leadership roles. He urged the newly inaugurated assembly to focus on legislative duties and collaborate closely with the Lagos State House of Assembly to enhance their skills.
Pharm (Mrs) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, encouraged the new members to leverage their platform to initiate transformative programs for youth development. She emphasized the importance of utilizing this opportunity to learn, unlearn, and relearn, in order to add value to the lives of millions of youths in Lagos State.
In her acceptance speech, Hon. Maria Itunuoluwa Soniregun, the Speaker of the 5th Assembly, emphasized the importance of representing the diverse voices of young people across all constituencies. Committed to creating a better society for their fellow youths, she pledged to work towards positive change and effective representation of youth interests in Lagos State.
