As Senator Tokunbo Abiru marks his 60th birthday, it's only fitting to reflect on the remarkable leadership he has displayed, making him the epitome of excellence in governance. Senator Abiru stands as a shining example of what a true leader should be, not just for his constituents but for the world at large, as he's enabling leadership that will stand for generations to come.
This is a leader who is so passionate about the welfare of his people, he neglected social jamboree in other to feed over ten thousand constituents across the 16 LGAs and LCDAs, he felt it's quite neccessary for his constituents to be happy as he celebrate his 60th birthday, instead of throwing a party that won't have direct benefit on the people.
He was an accomplished banker who rose to the peak of his career at the highest level of the banking system and ventured into politics, as a top-notch seasoned politician. He is versatile, intelligent and above all, a detribalised Nigerian who believes so much in meritocracy.
Senator Abiru's commitment to the welfare of his constituents knows no bounds. The 300 million constituency revolving loan have provided opportunities for over 1000 MSMES, his generous donations of transformers to many communities within the Senatorial district, quarterly food packs, along with his unwavering support for those affected by natural disasters like floods, highlight his deep sense of compassion and dedication to uplifting the lives of all of us in Lagos East he represents at the Senate.
In the legislative arena, Senator Abiru has proven himself to be a formidable force with his quantum legislative prowess. His bills, such as the one limiting apex bank compliance to the fiscal act and the 6 year duration of the CBN Governor's tenure, as well as his efforts to amend the Nigerian Deposit Insurance, NDIC, Act, demonstrate his foresight and dedication to strengthening the banking framework of our country. It's no wonder he emerged as the Chairman of the Southern Senators Forum, a testament to his leadership skills and ability to garner support for crucial initiatives and policy deliberation.
Senator Abiru's focus on education and youth empowerment further underscores his commitment to building a brighter future for not just Lagos East but the entire Lagos and Nigeria at large. Initiatives like the elementary teachers training program, construction of youth sports centers, construction and rehabilitation of markets, rehabilitation of roads most especially the reconstruction of Itoikin to Ikorodu (sabo roundabout) all these projects and programmes have all contributed to development of his Senatorial District and also provides opportunities for young people to thrive.
One of Senator Abiru's most impactful contributions has been the creation of the SAIL Innovation Lab, a testament to his visionary leadership and commitment to fostering innovation and progress in his community, a closer look into the future will tell you what the graduands will represent.
