BREAKING: Abia NLC Threaten Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Minimum Wage, Wage Award | #lagostrend

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abia State has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state government, threatening to embark on an indefinite strike action if their demands are not met.

The workers are protesting the non-payment of the N30,000 minimum wage and the N35,000 palliative wage award approved by the Federal Government since October 2023.

In a letter addressed to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, the NLC stated that despite a previous 14-day ultimatum, the government has failed to dialogue with them or provide a solution to their demands. The workers have vowed to proceed on strike beginning from Monday, July 15, 2024, if their demands are not met.

The NLC, through its State Chairman, Com. Okoro Ogbonnaya, urged the government to take their demands seriously, warning that there will be no further communication after the expiration of the ultimatum. The workers are united in their quest for fair compensation, and the strike action is expected to paralyze activities in the state.

The development is a culmination of the long-standing dispute between the Abia State government and the organized labour over the payment of the minimum wage and wage award. The workers are determined to fight for their rights, and the state government faces mounting pressure to address their grievances.
