Hon. Princess Surah O. Animashaun FHTI, Urges Residents to Embrace Tree Planting for a Greener Future ~Lagostrend

 



Lagostrend Reports that the Epe local government Chairman, ,Hon Princess Surah O. Animashaun FHTI  Which was represented by the council Vice Chairman  Hon. Sikiru Owolomoshe, Urges Residents to embrace Tree Planting for a Sustainable Future.


Hon. Sikiru Owolomoshe, emphasized the importance of nurturing the future through tree planting.


The Chairman urge us all to imbibe the habit of  tree planting, and nurturing of green life to boost biodiversity while reiterating her commitment to achieve cleaner and greener ecosystem.


 Hon. Sikiru Owolomoshe stressed the need for intentionality in planting trees and keeping greens around us, highlighting the benefits of tree planting, which includes ensuring a sustainable future.


Hon. Sikiru Owolomoshe, used the occasion to sensitize the people on the numerous environmental advantages of tree planting. Hon. Owolomoshe highlighted the benefits of tree planting some of which are healthy environment, safe ecosystem and reduction of erosion.


He encouraged residents to rededicate themselves to the practice of planting trees, emphasizing that the trees we enjoy today were planted by someone in the past. He  urged residents to reflect on what seeds they want to plant to nurture their own future.


He also emphasized the need to be mindful of our actions, behavior, and attitude towards each other and the environment, as these will determine the kind of future we nurture. He prayed that residents would be architects of a beautiful and prosperous future.


Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, who was ably represented by Mrs Akinpelu, Director in the Ministry of Environment with her  opening remarks emphatically cautioned people against the habit of indiscriminate cutting of trees, noise and air pollution among other actions that can affect our environment. She  said tree planting play crucial roles in regulating the climate, preventive soil erosion and enhancing our resilient to climate impacts as they act as natural air purifier and as such should be embraced and encouraged.


She  emphasized that these issues threaten the environment, economy, and livelihood of residents, with far-reaching consequences for public health and safety.


She commended LASPARK’s efforts in creating vibrant urban green spaces, enhancing the quality of life for all residents. He commended the agency’s staff, led by Adetoun Popoola, for their dedication to environmental conservation.


She stated that trees are a vital component of the environment, regulating the climate, preventing soil erosion, protecting biodiversity, and enhancing resilience to climate impacts. She encouraged residents to plant at least one tree in their lifetime, nurture it, and teach their children about environmental stewardship.


However, the commissioner emphasized the need for collective action, urging every Lagosian to join the effort. She encouraged residents to take ownership of their environment and develop better habits to protect the planet’s health.



“To the residents of Epe, I urge you all to take ownership of this initiative and join us in planting and nurturing trees in your surroundings. Let us work together to make our community a better place for all. Let us plant trees for a better tomorrow, let us plant trees for a healthier environment, let us plant trees for a brighter future.”


Also in attendance; the Vice Chairman  of Epe local government who was accompanied by the SLG, Hon. Rahmon Saheed, Supervisor for Environment, Hon Odupe Tunde Fuad, Supervisor for Health, Hon. Alebiosu, Supervisor for Education, Hon. Ganiu Adele, Supervisor for Works, Hon. Rahmon Sikiru, Supervisor for WAPA, Hon. Bola Lawal, S A on Works, Hon. Ashiru Waheed, SSA on Special Duty and Wealth Creation, Hon. Seyi Ladele, HOD Environment, Mr Kolapo, HRO, Mr Oyefuga, NULGE Executive led by, Comrade Lara Ayeola, NYCN President, Comrade Moibi Ibrahim, the TG/PS Education district iv Wife, Mrs Oshinaike Ibidun and the Management and Staff of Epe LGA.
