READ THE FULL TEXT OF PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY COMRADE MOIBI IBRAHIM, THE COORDINATOR, NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN), EPE BRANCH ON WEDNESDAY, 31ST OF JULY, 2024 AT EPE LOCAL GOVERNMENT SECRETARIAT, ITAMARUN, EPE, LAGOS.

Build the Youth! Build the Nation!!

Dear Youthful Comrades, Leaders, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press and the Good People of Epe Local Government.

I welcome you all to this important press conference. I stand before you today as the Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Branch, to address a pressing matter that affects us all.

We have convened this press conference to address the planned nationwide protest scheduled for Thursday, August 1st, 2024 and issues sorounding the lockage of the Epe Area Office of Ikeja Electric.

As you are aware, the current economic situation and high inflation of goods have made life difficult for many of us. However, I urge the youths of Epe to reconsider the planned protest and instead embrace dialogue with the government.

We understand the frustrations and concerns that have led to this call for protest. However, we strongly advise the youths in Epe to shun any form of protest that could lead to violence, vandalization of properties, and public amenities.

We recall the devastating consequences of the EndSARS protest in 2020, which resulted in the loss of many young lives and destruction of public and private properties. The aftermath of that protest left deep scars on our nation, and we cannot afford to repeat such a tragedy. Epe was spared from that chaos, and we intend to maintain our community's exceptional record of peaceful engagement.

Instead of protests, we advocate for dialogue and constructive engagement with the government to address our grievances.

We believe that this approach will yield more positive outcomes and foster a safer environment for our youth. We must learn from the past and explore alternative channels for expressing our concerns, such as town hall meetings, stakeholder engagements, and collaborative problem-solving initiatives.

We must work together to find solutions to our challenges. I encourage our youths to take advantage of this opportunity and engage in constructive conversation.

I also want to clarify that, the Ikeja Electric Office Epe, which was locked by NYCN Epe, was not a result of the planned protest. It was due to the epileptic power supply in Epe, which has grounded our businesses. I am pleased to inform you that the Lagos State Government and the CEO of Ikeja Electric have contacted us, and we have requested them to come down to Epe for a discussion on our electricity issues.

Once again, the Ikeja Electric office Epe which was locked is to express our displeasure with the I.E, which we believe they are private entity that render services to the people.

This action was not a protest but a symbolic expression of our concerns, carried out without violence or disruption. We achieved our objective without putting anyone's life or property at risk. This approach demonstrates that we can effectively communicate our concerns without resorting to destructive means.

We urge our youth to embrace this approach and work with us to build a better future for ourselves and our community. Let us engage in constructive dialogue, seek solutions, and collaborate with stakeholders to address our challenges.

Once again, I want to implore our youths to remain calm and resilient. Epe is our community, Lagos is our state, and Nigeria remains our nation. Let us build our dear Nation together.

Nigeria Oni baje oo!

Igbega ilu Eko, Ajumose ni oooo!!

Epe Oni baje ooo!!!

Build the Youth! Build the Nation!!

Thank you and God bless.
