EDO WELCOMES NEW POLICE COMMISSIONER, CP NEMI EDWIN-IWO PSC

Benin City, Edo State - The Edo State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by the new Commissioner of Police, CP Nemi Edwin-Iwo PSC+. The seasoned law enforcement officer takes over from the former CP, who has been redeployed to a new position.


CP Nemi Edwin-Iwo hails from Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State. He holds a BA (Hons) Degree in History from the University of Port-Harcourt and a Masters in Industrial Relations from the University of Ibadan. 


The new police chief was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, rising through the ranks over the last three decades. During this time, he has attended several tactical and leadership courses both within and outside the country.


Some of the notable courses he has completed include the Combat Operational course at the Mobile Training School Desert camp in Gwoza, the Citizenship and Leadership Course in Shere Hills, Jos, the Intermediate Command Course in Jos, as well as training in Tactical Counter Terrorism in Cairo, Egypt. He has also undergone courses in human rights, countering violent extremism, and community policing.


CP Edwin-Iwo has held several command positions, serving as Divisional Police Officer in Bayelsa State, Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos and Oyo States, Operations Officer in Bayelsa, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State. He has also served at the Police Staff College in Jos, as well as Commissioner of Police in the Counter Terrorism Unit and Force Intelligence Department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.


The new Edo CP is an urbane officer with vast experience spanning administration, intelligence, operations, and public relations. He is also an internationally recognized cop, having served in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Sudan, and Darfur.


Until his posting to Edo, CP Edwin-Iwo was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Intelligence at the Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and is married with children.


The Edo State Police Command has expressed confidence in the ability of the new Commissioner to build on the achievements of his predecessor and provide effective leadership in securing the state. Residents of Edo are urged to cooperate with the new CP and the entire police force to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the state.
