Epe, Lagos State, Aug. 20, 2024 (NAN), The Aladeshonyin of Odo-Noforija, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja has urged governments to treat Isese Day with same significance as other national holidays.
The Oba also advocated for governments’ involvement in Isese day celebration on a larger scale.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)recalls that some south west states, including Lagos state, declared Tuesday, Aug. 20 as public holiday to allow participants to mark the day.
NAN reports that the annual Isese day celebration, known for its vibrant displays and traditional rites, underscores the significance of cultural identity in a rapidly changing world.
According to the Oba, there is need for governments at all levels to actively promote and preserve the nation’s cultural heritage, traditions, and origins for the sake of national prosperity.
He told NAN in an interview in Epe-Noforija , that there was need for citizens to connect with their roots and understand the practices of their ancestors.
“The governments’ inability to uphold our cultural heritage, traditions, and norms is contributing significantly to setbacks in our society,
“For the nation to progress and develop, it is imperative that government at all levels recognise and uphold the rite of its cultures, traditions, and heritage, ” he said.
According to the traditional ruler, Isese day is a time of honor for the Yoruba people, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the race.
He expressed pride in the resilience and importance of Yoruba customs and urged everyone to preserve these traditions for future generations.
“This day serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving our traditions and the unity that binds us together as a people,” he said.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng).
