Breaking News: Obi Condemns Edo Election Outcome, Calls for Democratic Reforms

Peter Obi, Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has strongly criticized the Edo State off-cycle governorship election results.

Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the LP secured 22,761 votes.

Obi expressed disappointment, labeling the election a "blatant example of state capture" and "gross undermining of our democratic process and values." He argued that a flawed leadership recruitment process dooms any nation, citing Nigeria's current struggles.

Obi urged authorities not to depend on compromised elections to remain in power. He emphasized the importance of utilizing technologies like IReV and BVAS to prevent electoral falsification.
