The era of political doldrums in Epe is coming to an end - Dr. Onakoya

A University Don and an aspirant into the Federal House of Representatives aiming to represent the good people of Epe Federal Constituency in the forthcoming general elections in 2027, Dr. Abdulkareem Onakoya who is currently lecturing at the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Epe Campus has reiterated his intention to run for the position with the mind of changing the narratives and bringing back the lost glories and values of the Epe Division.

He assured the residents of the ancient town during the weekends while granting audience to the newsmen.

According to him, Epe as a formidable land of greatness and prosperity wouldn’t have been where it is today had it had good leaders who think of how to contribute meaningfully to the development of the division.

He lamented that;

“Most of our representatives in this part of the state are not getting the right orientation for proper political activities as it ought to be”

“We have good and capable hands in the division who can prove their worths in all aspects of human endeavours”

“The only factor hindering their contributions is the fact that our leaders are not giving them the necessary support”

“They (our leaders) have forgotten that when they ‘select’ those who can’t perform into the offices, we all bear the consequences negatively”

“The end of that era is ending soon enough. Most of the electorates are in quest of better hands who they can trust to lead them”.

“Some of us have been assumed to be relatively old enough now to handle some technical issues in the division, even those who are behind us, younger and vibrant”.

“When we are not given the opportunity to serve our people diligently now, when would it be our turns?”.

“Moreover, the idea of repeating somebody to occupy a position for more than two terms is becoming archaic when we have better ones to handle such positions”.

“Our people must be well enlightened into knowing some basics of politics. Legislative business most particularly in Nigeria is now coming to the era of lobbying and selflessness by the real actors who have the interest of their people at heart”

“It is also a position to empower the people as some legislators do in the state”

“We are tired of giving support to those who care about themselves alone at the expense of about 356,000 residents of the Federal Constituency”.

“The most painful part is that they don’t live here with us. They are alien to most of our problems. Let them go to where they live and represent them there”.

“A representative of the people must be with them to know how things happen and be given a first hand information about things”

“He/she must use our money to develop the community where he/she secured the mandate to represent them. We are tired of the people who can’t fight for the common man”

“For about 4 months ago, the electricity in the town (Epe central - with about 8 wards out of the 19) has been disrupted and almost nothing was done to restore it. This is bad enough. Our money should be spent on our being and goodness for crying out loud”.

“How many of our well-meaning sons and daughters in the federal constituency have federal appointments capared to Ikorodu and some other areas in the state?

“Those who are willing and genuinely capable and qualified are not recommended and or dropped for those who can praise-worship them”

“Epe Federal Constituency is old and large to attract federal housing scheme, federal college or unity schools, federal medical centres, even a federal university”.

“I said earlier it, it’s all about lobbying and not necessarily engaging in politics of bitterness and acrimony where only a very few who can sing their praises benefit”.

“Since I started my primary school education in 1975 at the RCM primary school, Mojoda, I rarely sleep outside Epe except when I was abroad for a while and during my higher education days in the universities”.

“As a university lecturer, fate has brought me back to Epe again to develop our common identity and goals”.

“My past and present are in the public domain for anybody to inquire about”

“These and many other reasons made me suit for the position and with God on our side, we shall rebuild our Epe back”.

“There no part of the federal constituency I have not been to and I know what we all need”.

He concluded by calling on the sundry to be prepared for the big change and not allow deception and deceptive practices of some politicians to further take away the values of Epe land.
