Allegations Arise as Gov Ododo Turns Govt House into Polling Centre- PDP

The PDP has accused Governor Ododo of turning the Government House into a polling unit and collation center during the Kogi local government elections, raising concerns of electoral malpractice.

On Saturday, the Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused Governor Usman Ododo of turning the Government House into polling stations and collation centers for all 21 local governments in anticipation of the upcoming local council elections.

The PDP's state chapter pointed out that October 19 was intended to be the date for local government elections, as declared by the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC). However, they noticed a total absence of electoral activity throughout the state.

In a statement signed by Alhaji Tijani Aruwa, the PDP called on the public to dismiss KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Eri's assurances about holding a transparent, free, and credible election. The party described these promises as insincere and misleading.

The party cautioned that anyone expecting Usman Ododo to be different from his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, should brace themselves for a rude awakening.

The party noted that "there are no apparent signs of election preparations in the state, as all INEC offices across the 21 local governments, intended to serve as locations for receiving sensitive materials for the local government elections, are still closed."

The PDP claimed that all the "election materials have been relocated to the Government House, where rigging activities have reportedly taken place for more than a week. The party expects that the outcomes of this 'sham arrangement' will be declared later today, with only a handful of ballot boxes shown in media coverage to mislead the public."

Additionally, the PDP urged the National Assembly to hasten progress on the ongoing local government reforms, stressing that this is essential for enabling citizens to elect their representatives at the local level.
