Lagos, Oct. 19, 2024 (NAN) A Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), United Way Greater Nigeria (UWGN) in collaboration with Zaron Cosmetics, has inaugurated a food drive initiative to alleviate food insecurity in vulnerable communities in Lagos State.
The Executive Director, UWGN, Deola Durodola, in a statement on Saturday, said the initiative was held in commemoration of the World Food Day.
Durodola said the food drive was part of a broader mission to fight hunger and promote sustainable development, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of zero hunger.
According to her, the initiative provided staple food items, hygiene packs and nutritional supplements to 100 women-led households, particularly widows, and the elderly.
She said the initiative was done at two underserved communities — Onola Community in Lagos Island and Ijagemo Community in Alimosho Local Government Area.
“Our collaboration with Zaron Cosmetics for the 2024 Food Drive reflects our commitment to addressing food insecurity, one of the most critical issues affecting our communities.
“By focusing on women-led households, especially widows, we are helping to ensure that these families have access to the nourishment they need while contributing to a more sustainable future for all Nigerians,” she said.
Similarly, Oluwabunmi Ibitoye,Team Lead Business Development, Zaron Cosmetics, said the initiative leveraged both organisation’s resources, expertise, and shared passion for community service.
“The event not only provided essential sustenance to those in need but also raised awareness of the importance of sustainable food systems and the global fight against hunger.
“We are committed to continuing our efforts to ensure that we feed our community one household at a time,” Ibitoye said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
