Police Warn POS Operators: Transactions Over N500,000 May Lead To Legal Trouble

The Delta State Police have issued a strict warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators, cautioning them against handling transactions above N500,000.

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, raised concerns that such large transactions could link operators to criminal activities, particularly kidnappings. He highlighted a recent case where a POS operator unknowingly processed a ransom payment of N4 million for kidnappers, earning only N40,000 in profit.

Edafe warned POS operators to avoid becoming tools for kidnappers, as large transactions can be easily traced back to them. He emphasized, “Don’t be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom. It must be traced to you. One operator received N4 million in ransom from kidnappers, only making N40,000.”

The police urged all POS operators to adhere to federal regulations that set strict limits on transaction amounts. Edafe stressed the importance of vigilance and reporting any suspicious activity to authorities.

“Be wise. You may think you’re just doing business, but it could land you in serious legal trouble. Before your lawyer can even defend you, you may find yourself spending time behind bars,” he added.

POS operators are encouraged to stay within the legal limits to avoid being implicated in criminal activities and facing severe legal consequences.
