Breaking News:Court of Appeal Sacks MC Oluomo as NURTW National President, Declares Baruwa Authentic Leader

In a dramatic turn of events, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified the appointment of MC Oluomo as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), just six days after he assumed office.

The court ruled in favor of Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, affirming him as the legitimate President of the union. This decision aligns with an earlier judgment by the Industrial Court on March 11, 2024, which had declared Baruwa as the rightful leader.

MC Oluomo, who also serves as the re-elected Lagos NURTW Chairman following his November 2023 victory, has now been stripped of his national role.

 Appeal Court’s Decision

The three-member panel of the Court of Appeal delivered its judgment on November 8, 2024, solidifying Baruwa’s position as the authentic President. The court also imposed a cost of ₦100,000 against the appellants, ruling in favor of the respondents.

Background and Implications

MC Oluomo's brief tenure as National President marks a significant chapter in the union’s leadership tussle. His removal underscores the contentious nature of the union's presidency and the ongoing legal battles surrounding its leadership.

As the dust settles, the focus now shifts to Baruwa's leadership and his plans to steer the union amidst these challenges. Observers note that the judgment reaffirms the judiciary's role in resolving disputes within national institutions.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
