The National Executive Council (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BOT) of Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School Old Students Association (NUDGOSA), Obantoko, Abeokuta, recently held an interactive session with the newly appointed principals of the senior and junior schools. The meeting, held on the school premises, focused on charting actionable strategies for the continued development of the school.
The session was attended by notable members of NUDGOSA, including Alhaji Waheed Badru (BOT member), Hon. Fasiu Bakene (Global President), Damilola Sanni (Public Relations Officer), Bode Fabule (ex-officio and immediate past General Secretary), Tajudeen Sokunbi and Isikilu Seteolu. Key members of the school management present included the Senior School Principal, Mr. Lanre Sokunbi, and the Junior School Principal, Mrs. Rukayat Ojikutu-Akinosho, alongside their deputies: Mrs. Hafsat Omotayo, Mr. Olugbenga Adeleye, Mr. Ajani Adeniyi, Mr. Kehinde Sowole, Mrs. Basirat Sodimu, and Mrs. Matilda Ehen.
In his opening remarks, Global President Hon. Fasiu Bakene urged the principals to present the schools’ challenges and suggest ways for NUDGOSA’s intervention. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the senior and junior school management teams for harmonious progress. He also encouraged them to nurture students’ character in line with the school’s values and the glory of God.
Public Relations Officer Damilola Sanni, who anchored the session, reiterated the call for a clear roadmap of the schools’ needs and how the alumni could assist effectively.
During the discussion, Senior School Principal Mr. Lanre Sokunbi, himself an alumnus, highlighted the schools’ achievements in academics and sports. He noted the schools’ commendable representation of the state in national competitions, including quizzes and debates.
However, both principals expressed concern over critical challenges, particularly the lack of security personnel, which has left the schools vulnerable. They also emphasized the need for better-equipped sick bays, including essential drugs, first-aid supplies, and medical personnel.
A comprehensive list of needs was presented to NUDGOSA for consideration, including requests specific to the senior and junior secondary schools.
Responding to the schools’ requests, Mr Bode Fabule emphasized the importance of good maintenance culture. He urged that the soon-to-be-commissioned story building with eight classrooms, the Amudat Akanni Block project, be restricted to SS3 students, who must sign an undertaking to repair or replace any damaged facilities.
The meeting concluded with a tour of completed facilities, including the Amudat Akanni Block—a modern, fully equipped story building with amenities such as a solar-powered borehole and modern toilets. Other facilities visited included the female hostel built by UK NUDGOSA chapter and the clinic/sick bay initiated by an alumni.
Global President Hon. Fasiu Bakene assured attendees that the requests would be addressed incrementally and encouraged members of NUDGOSA to sponsor specific projects or items from the schools’ needs.
