The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, is reportedly consolidating market administration in Lagos State under his associate, Abiodun Ishola Ejigbadero, a controversial figure and alleged land grabber entangled in numerous legal disputes with landowners across Agege, Ikeja, and Alimosho communities.
Abiodun Ejigbadero, the son of the infamous Ishola Ejigbadero—who was sentenced to death for the murder of Raji Oba decades ago—has allegedly become a source of terror for residents in Ikeja, Agege, and Alimosho. He claims his late father owned thousands of hectares of land across these areas, which he now seeks to reclaim.
Using his close ties to Speaker Obasa, Ejigbadero has reportedly bypassed the Lagos State Anti-Land Grabbing Agency and its laws to seize developed and undeveloped properties, including markets. He has allegedly assumed the role of "market master," collecting daily levies without formal agreements with local councils.
It is noteworthy that Ejigbadero's unresolved conflict with the Alimosho Local Government over Iyana Ipaja Market spurred Speaker Obasa to orchestrate the attempted suspension of the council chairman, Jelili Sulaimon Adewale. This controversial move faced widespread condemnation and was eventually halted by the Governor's Advisory Council (GAC), the highest advisory body of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
While the GAC sought a balanced resolution to the dispute, Speaker Obasa reportedly instructed Ejigbadero, who also coordinates The Mudashiru Movement in Alimosho Federal Constituency, to continue collecting levies from the Iyana Ipaja Market without formalizing an operational agreement with the local government administration led by Jelili Sulaimon Adewale.
Observers suggest that Speaker Obasa is grooming Ejigbadero, a key enforcer and supporter of his alleged 2027 gubernatorial ambitions, regardless of the reputational damage these actions may cause to the state government or its executive.
Investigations also reveal that Ejigbadero's alleged land acquisition activities often involve violent tactics, and many of the documents he presents as proof of ownership have failed forensic examinations by the police. This questionable record has reportedly driven him to seek refuge under Speaker Obasa’s political protection.
