HRM Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, has expressed his support for the establishment of a new naval base in Iji, highlighting its potential to enhance security and foster development in epe. The monarch commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of such a facility in ensuring the safety of the community and its surrounding areas.

In a bid towards bringing relief and succour to the people of Epe division, the Alara of Ilara-Epe, HRM Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo has assured better days ahead of the residents.

The challenges facing the division are numerous and these include; insecurity, vandalisation/epileptic supply of electricity and reckless driving and others.

These issues were tabled during the courtesy visits of the Nigerian Navy Commander, IKEDC officials and officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The official visitation which was held today, Thursday, 19th December, 2024 called for the presence of naval officers led by the commander-in-chief, MG Dame, IKEDC officers led by business manager, officers of the FRSC, Baales, chiefs and residents 

At the event the monarch strongly opined on how lasting solution can be found on the issue of insecurity, vandalisation of electricity cables and reckless driving and wrongly parking of vehicles on the major roads 

While fielding questions from the newsmen, he said;

“The siting of a naval base here in Ilara Kingdom is a great opportunity for us in Epe division. Apart from expanding the security coast to the communities, it is also important for military to complement the efforts of the military base in Epe”.

“This will further strengthen the operational capabilities and enhance rapid community development in the division”.

He also spoke on the danger of the tankers drivers using the border post of Mojoda/Odoajogun as a transit point could have on the lives and property of the innocent people.

He lamented that;

“The tanker drivers should as a matter of urgency look for a parking spot to allow free flow of vehicular traffic into the division and this would avert future accidents”

“If measures were to have been taken against the safety of individuals, the occurrence which took many lives in Ayetoro recently wouldn’t have occurred’.

On the issue of incessant blackouts in the area, he said;

“These efforts are aimed at sabotaging the unrelenting capacity of our leaders in the division and all eyes must be turned on to avert future occurrence”

“We are not relenting in our determination to end this war on us”.

The flag officer Commander, MG Dame who signed an agreement with the monarch assured that their military personnel will do everything possible to ensure that the issue of insecurity become things of the past in the area.


“We are poised and ready to make the area safer than ever”.


“The Kabiesi and his team have given us their best possible opportunity to build a virile security network in the area”.


On the other hand, the residents of the area expressed their dissatisfaction over the repeatedly vandalisation of electricity cables which according to them has affected the economy of the division.


They stressed that the IKEDC officers should make a thorough internal investigation among themselves. 


According to one of the residents who spoke under anonymous circumstance, he said;


“It's only those who know about electricity who can do such bad acts".


 Meanwhile, the IKEDC officers expressed their concerns over the issue. Assuring that it is time to work together as to fetch out the perpetrators. They showed their concerns to the plight of the people who have been thrown into darkness for about 4 months now.

In addition, Oba Ogunsanwo assured residents that efforts are underway to achieve stable electricity supply in epe. This commitment is part of his broader vision to improve the living standards of the people and attract more investments to Ilara Kingdom. The promise of reliable power is expected to boost local businesses and enhance the overall quality of life.
