Epe(Lagos State), Sept. 16, 2021(NAN) Some cultural enthusiasts in Epe Division of Lagos state, has said that festival could serve as a catalyst for socioeconomic development, If properly harnessed.
They told the News Agency of Nigeria in a separate interviews in Epe, on Thursday.
They said that national festivals as helped to bring about cultural integrations, cultural exchange and also help in promoting unity, love, peace and harmony among several ethnicities in the country.
According to Oba Shefiu Adewale, the Olu Epe of Epe Kingdom, recalled that the just concluded kayokayo festival celebrated in Epe Division has helped to strengthening communual relationship between Eko Epe and Ijebu Epe.
“This were the two diverse communities we have in ancient Epe town.
“The kayokayo festival has help to integrate the two communities together and it’s has further help to promote peace and unity among the people of the ancient community, ” he said.
Mrs Olushola Alade-Raji, a cultural enthusiast said that festival could be used to boost the socioeconomic status of a community.
She said that the annual kayokayo festival has help in know small measure increase the socioeconomic activities of Epe community.
Alade-Raji mentioned some of the beneficiaries of festivals which include; commercial drivers, traders, hoteliers, fast food, market women and men, local manufacturers among several others.
Mr Tajudeen Abass, Coordinator of kayokayo festival, said that in a community where love and unity exist there would be progress and improvement in their socio-economic life.
He stated that Kayokayo festival was one of the iconic festivals celebrated by the people of Epe Kingdom.
“Epe is enriched with cultural gallery and the only way we can levarage on that is to harness it for the benefit of the community.
“There is no better way we can tell our story than to fall back on our culture which is our way of life, the key to our development and a platform to consolidate and foster the economic and political aspect of our great community, ” he said.
Ms Surah Animashaun, Chairman, Epe local government, said that the council would be hosting this year World Tourism Day in Epe, on September 27.
She said that this would be first of its kind in Epe Division and it would be memorable.
“The celebrations will serve as an avenue to project Epe tourism potential to the world and it will also attract influx of tourists into Epe community.
“I am a lover of tourism and I will ensure that during my tenure, Epe tourism endowment will be projected into the world map, ” she said.(NAN)(Www..nannews.ng)
