Be civil while driving, Lagos commissioner urges motorists

Epe(Lagos State), Aug. 2, 2022(NAN) Barr. Tunde Seriki, Commissioner 1, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, has urged motorists to be civil while driving on the highway.

Seriki disclosed during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Epe, on Tuesday.

He said that the notice became necessary in order to save motorists from multiple car crashes on the road.

He noted that there was need for constant orientation and reorientation of driving safely on the highway by federal roads safety corps(FRSC) and other road safety personnel.

He added that over the last few months now, several accidents have been recorded across the city, which is discouraging.

Seriki attributed the road mishap to reckless driving of motorists on the highway.

According to him, reckless driving is a type of traffic violation in which a driver displays complete disregard for on the road signs, signals, and laws.

He added that, reckless driving is also a common cause of car accidents, and, because it usually involves high speeds or extremely dangerous driving tactics.

“It often results in the injury or death of one or more people involved. Fortunately, a reckless driving accident can be prevented.

“By knowing reckless driving accident causes and following a few safety tips, drivers can keep themselves, and other drivers on the road to safe from collision/unforseen circumstances, ” he said.

The commissioner mentioned some of the tactics to prevent road accidents as; driving safely and obeying the rules of the road, following safety tips, steer clear of any cars or drivers that look dangerous.

“If you see a car weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating too closely or speeding excessively, move over a few lanes and get out of their way.

“Report dangerous drivers. If possible, call local police when you spot a driver operating their vehicle recklessly.

“Always wear your seat belt and encourage your passengers to do the same too, seat belt can go a long way in preventing injury in the event an accident occurs, ” he said.

He said that numerous accidents have happened across the city and are majorly cause by reckless driving, over speeding, breaking of traffic lights and rules, consumption of alcohol, impatient while driving among several others.

Seriki therefore, urged motorists to obey driving rules, follow safety tips, be patient while driving and avoid consuming alcohol while driving to save lives.

He sympathise’s with the bereaved family of those who lost their love ones in a road mishap that happened in Epe recently and the ones that are happening across the city due to reckless driving and others.

Seriki appealed to motorists to comply with driving rules and also complement the Lagos state government transformation agenda’s on modern transportation system in the city. (NAN).(
