Lagostrend Report that Epe-Lagos Peace Festival, held annually, has become a highlight in the calendar of peacebuilding activities. In 2025, the festival was particularly notable as several prominent sons and daughters of Epe were awarded the International Eminent Peace Ambassador Awards by the International Association of Women Peace Advocates (IAWPA). This recognition illustrates the commitment of Epe’s citizens to fostering peace and promoting harmony within their communities and beyond.
The festival celebrated not only the achievements of individuals but also the cultural diversity of the Epe community. Distinguished figures from various fields, including education, healthcare, arts, and community service, were honored for their noteworthy contributions to peace advocacy. Among the awardees was Aladepekun of Odo- Egiri Kingdom, HRM Oba Musiliu Abiola Oliwo, His relentless efforts have fostered an environment where young minds can flourish, ultimately contributing to a more peaceful society.
Another significant awardee was Mrs. BASIRAT’S OLUSHOLA, an influential healthcare professional dedicated to improving maternal health in rural Epe. Her grassroots programs have reached many families, ensuring that expectant mothers receive essential medical care. By addressing critical health issues, Mrs. BASIRAT’S work has played a vital role in stabilizing communities and reducing conflicts arising from health disparities.
The Epe-Lagos Peace Festival also featured cultural performances and discussions that emphasized the importance of peace in contemporary society. Traditional dances and music brought the community together, allowing individuals to showcase their heritage while reinforcing the values of unity and understanding. Panel discussions addressed pressing social issues, including the need for youth engagement in peacebuilding efforts. The voices of young peace advocates were especially significant, as they provided innovative perspectives on tackling violence and fostering inclusivity.
As the festival concluded, it was evident that the efforts of Epe’s prominent individuals have not gone unnoticed. The awards symbolize a broader movement towards creating a sustainable culture of peace within and outside the Epe community. The IAWPA’s acknowledgment of these leaders encourages others to step forward and participate in peace initiatives actively.
It was a watershed in Epe Local Government,in Epe Division of Lagos State, Nigeria,on Thursday, February 27,2025, as some prominent sons, daughters of Epe and some other individuals,were appointed as Eminent Peace Ambassadors by International Association of World Peace Advocates,a World Class Organisation with United Nations ECOSOC Special Consultative Status since 2019; during the Epe – Lagos Peace Festival organised in commemoration of United Nations International Day of Human Fraternity.
According to the association which is also an active participant of the United Nations Global Compact and till date remains the foremost promoters of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals all over the world,some Epe sons and daughters,and other Nigerians who were adjudged to have done some things in their localities worthy of honour,given Eminent Peace Ambassadors Awards.
Those who made the list of the Ambassadors in Epe, include, the Aladepekun of Odo- Egiri Kingdom, HRM Oba Musiliu Abiola Oliwo; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Amb. Prof Oladipupo Basirat; Chairman of Council Managers in Lagos State,who is the Council Manager of Lekki LCDA, Ambassador Olayiwola Giwa; Divisional Police Officer ( D.P.O) Epe Divisional Police Headquarters, Oke Oyinbo,Epe, CSP. Benjamin Isola Ayeni;Iyaloja Oluwo Market,Amb.Chief (Mrs.) Adeola Giwa; and Council Treasurer, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government,Amb. Osunsan Rasak Olatunbosun
Others are: Amb.Rotn. Funkeakpo Ken Batife;M.D, Davidic Heritage Logistics, Amb.(Mrs.) Ajayi Adetutu Temitope;M.D, Red Africa Logistics, Amb. Ambrose Osobase West Aikhuele;C.E.O, Ful-Fit Clothing, Amb.(Mrs.) Vera Zuhar David;C.E.O, Mainstream Power Service Limited, Amb. Matthew Eghagha; amongst others.
While delivering his Keynote Address at the beautiful Event Hall of Royal Waterfront Hotel and Suites,Epe; the World Peace President Denmark, His Excellency Amb. Per Stafsen, revealed that, this is the first time, the Peace Festival, would be staged in Nigeria and Epe was lucky to be the preferred location for the festival.
” As we have gathered here to celebrate PEACE,it shows how we are committed,both at our private and public lives to making PEACE a lifestyle,a character that I would personally encourage each and everyone of us to keep doing with the hope and belief that PEACE will be achieved in wherever place we may find ourselves, particularly here in Nigeria” He said.
President Per Stafsen,who pointed out that, the association is committed to promoting World Peace to achieve United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which has been the association’s identity since her arrival in Nigeria in the year 2012; said,” In view of the above,our association will today, present awards by way of appointment to some prominent Nigerians ,that have contributed in promoting PEACE in their respective places, particularly those that have put smiles on the faces of the less- privileged persons in their surrounding with the award of Eminent Peace Ambassadors. They are to see the award,as a call to serve humanity and not a reward of status,but above all, is to support the government of Nigeria to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals before 2030.”
The association’s President in Nigeria, Olu of Ignore Egba,Ogun State, HRM Oba Amb. Dr. Joseph Adeogun Ogunjobi Ogunbano, after congratulating the new Eminent Peace Ambassadors of the day,urged them to see the honour bestowed on them as a call to service; by assisting the government of Nigeria and global community,at large, to promote peace all over the world.
Meanwhile, Amb. Oba Oliwo, Amb. Giwa, Prof. Amb. Basirat, amongst others,have described Epe,as a peaceful community,but urged everyone to continue to ensure peace in all areas of life endeavours. They also offered fervent prayers for continuous peace in Nigeria and all over the world.
Amb. CSP. Benjamin, commended the Inspector General of Police,Kayode Egbetokun,for timely trainings for police officers in the country,noting that,skills and information gathered,has continued to help him in crisis and dispute management. He thanked the good people of Epe for making the community policing easy.
” We have zero tolerance for crimes, therefore, criminals, especially,the cultists should immediately leave Epe. Epe is no place for crime and Nigeria Police is fully on ground to maintain law and order,in order to ensure peace everywhere in our communities.
Dignitaries at the festival included, International Director of IAWPA Worldwide, Amb. Prof. Chidi Ehiriodo; Olu Owode of Egba ,Ogun State, HRM Oba Amb. Kolawole Aremu Sowemimo;Amb. Engr. Rotn. Chief Jimoh Alaba Quadry (MD); South-West IAWPA Co-ordinator, Amb. High-Chief. Dr. Kayode Adewoe Orianye; World Peace Spokesman,Amb. Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke; representatives of
security agencies; amongst others.
The event also featured infotainment presentations from the students, of Ogunmodede College,Odo Obara High School and Imole Comprehensive College,Epe.
