embarks on sensitization of the communities and consultations with community leaders…_
In line with the present administration’s commitment to inclusive education and sustainable development, the Department of Education and Library Services, under the directive of the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA; Hon. [Engr] Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), successfully launched a comprehensive Adult Literacy Awareness and Sensitization Programme for communities in Lekki LCDA.
The campaign, which kicked off at Ilege Community and extended to other communities in the LCDA, aimed to promote the benefits of adult education, particularly for non-literate individuals in Lekki LCDA.
The programme strategically engaged traditional leaders, education officers, and community stakeholders to drive participation in the Free Adult Education Programme across selected communities in Lekki LCDA.
Education officers conducted interactive sessions, emphasizing the economic, social, and personal benefits of literacy, especially in an emerging economy such as Lekki LCDA.
Traditional leaders (Obas and Baales) were formally decorated as “Ambassadors of Adult Literacy” in their respective communities. The programme specifically targeted adults (ages 18 and above) who cannot read nor write.
The Free Adult Education Programme will be rolled out in the following communities:
1. RCM primary school, Lekki.
2. RCM primary school Olomowewe.
3. RCM primary school Okunraye.
4. LG primary school, Ilege.
5. ST David Primary school, Idotun
