At This Rate, Even INEC May Join APC” – Dele Momodu Warns Against One-Party Dominance

Media personality and political analyst, Chief Dele Momodu, has alleged that recent political defections in Delta State were orchestrated through coercion, raising alarms about Nigeria’s drift toward a one-party state.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television political affairs program, Momodu claimed that the governor, deputy governor, members of the State House of Assembly, and local government chairmen who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not acting of their own volition.

“They were forced,” Momodu asserted. “They had no real choice or opinion in the matter.”

He urged President Bola Tinubu to allow genuine democratic processes to thrive, cautioning against manipulative tactics aimed at consolidating power within a single political party.

“If care is not taken, Nigeria could become a one-party state,” he warned. “At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if even INEC joins the APC.”

Momodu questioned the rationale behind the defections, challenging the defectors to identify any notable achievements by President Tinubu that justified their move.

“How many of them can sincerely point to something good the president has done that made them join the APC?” he asked.

He concluded by stressing the unpredictability of the nation’s political future. “Only God knows tomorrow. 2027 is still far off, and no one can say for certain what will happen before, during, or after the elections, regardless of all these political permutations.”

Momodu’s comments have stirred debate online, amplifying growing concerns about political pressure and the independence of democratic institutions in Nigeria.
