A former military administrator of Bayelsa State and retired naval officer, Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade (retd), has passed on.
The retired officer and politician was said to have suddenly passed away at the age of 70 on Sunday, May 11, in Apapa, Lagos State.
Olubolade, who served as minister of special duties under former Premier Goodluck Jonathan, died on Sunday in Apapa area of Lagos.
His death was confirmed in a joint statement issued by his first daughter, Oluwayemisi Akinadewo, and his first son, Dayo Olubolade.
“He drove himself to the facility to play lawn tennis in the evening and slumped while playing,” the statement revealed.
“Efforts were made by medical officers around to revive him to no avail. He was immediately rushed to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital, Apapa, where he was pronounced dead.”
Olubolade had celebrated his 70th birthday just months earlier, on November 30, 2024.
A native of Ipoti-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Olubolade had a career in both the military and public service.
He served as the first Military Administrator of Bayelsa State from October 1996 to February 1997, following the state’s creation by the Sani Abacha military regime.

He served as Minister of Special Duties under former President Goodluck Jonathan and held prior appointments as Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Minister of Police Affairs.
