Between 2016 and 2017, the Ikorodu area of Lagos State was gripped by fear due to a series of ritual killings attributed to a cult gang known as the “Badoo Killings.” The gang’s modus operandi was to target victims and leave a chilling signature: writing “I am Badoo” on the doors of their victims.
The killings began after a suspect, also dubbed “Badoo,” was arrested at Ibeshe, Ikorodu, for alleged serial rape and ritual killings. However, instead of ending the killings, his arrest seemed to trigger a new wave of terror.
The police struggled to contain the situation, and the community imposed strict restrictions, including dusk-to-dawn curfews.
Residents lived in fear, and many fled to safer areas. The then-Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, met with traditional rulers, warning those who might be complicit in the killings. The Badoo Killings dominated news headlines in Lagos State in 2017, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
The incident remains a dark chapter in Ikorodu’s history, marked by fear, death, and destruction.
