Lagos State University (LASU) has taken decisive action following serious allegations of mistreatment against students by the Dean of the School of Agriculture, Professor Abanikanda. The Dean has been placed on compulsory leave effective immediately, pending a full investigation.
Lagostrendradiotv reports that this announcement came through a press release issued by the LASU Students’ Union on May 22, 2025, after sustained advocacy from the student body regarding the welfare of their peers.
The Students’ Union, led by the 35th Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed their commitment to protecting student rights and ensuring transparency in the process.
“As your representatives, we remain steadfast in our commitment to advocate for the welfare of our students,” the statement read. “The compulsory leave is a step toward a fair and unbiased investigation by a fact-finding committee.”
The university has appointed an associate professor from the Faculty of Sciences as the acting Dean of Agriculture, effective Monday, May 26, 2025.
This temporary appointment aims to stabilize the faculty and reassure students of continued academic leadership.
Reacting to the development, LASU Students’ Union PRO said, “We encourage all students to remain vigilant and engaged. Our pursuit of justice will not waver until a fair resolution is achieved.”
