The Edo Central Senatorial District is currently without representation in the Nigerian Senate following the election of the incumbent Senator to contest for another position. This development has created a vacancy in the Senate, and it is essential that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducts a by-election to fill the seat as it is already long overdue.
The people of Edo Central Senatorial District deserve to have their voices heard and their interests represented in the Senate. Conducting a timely by-election will not only ensure that the district’s representation is restored but also uphold the democratic principles of representation and accountability.
INEC and it’s chairman has the responsibility to conduct elections to fill the vacancies occasioned by resignation/death within 30 days following the notification from the Head of Parliament who shall declare a seat vacant.
The Senate president God’sWill Akpabio already declared the seat of Edo Central senatorial district vacant since December of 2024.
We urge INEC to expedite the process and conduct the bye-election in a free, fair, and transparent manner, ensuring that the will of the people is reflected in the outcome.
