June 12: No ‘Presidential Speech’ At 7am Any Longer, Military Parade ‘Cancelled’…Presidency Gives Reasons

The ‘presidential address’ scheduled to hold tomorrow, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 7 am in commemoration of the nation’s 26th anniversary of Democracy Day has been cancelled, President Bola Tinubu would rather deliver his speech to the joint sitting of the Senate and the House of Representatives at 12 pm.

The Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, who disclosed this in a statement he issued in Abuja on Wednesday, noted that the decision to cancel the ‘presidential speech’ scheduled to hold at 7 am was because President Tinubu would also be delivering a ‘presidential speech’ to the joint sitting of senate and house of representatives on the same day.

‘Due to President Bola Tinubu’s scheduled attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session, the Presidential National Broadcast on June 12 has been cancelled. President Tinubu will deliver his address from the National Assembly’ he said.

The statement noted that other scheduled activities to mark the Democracy Day will be held as planned.

A notice sent to journalists earlier in the day had announced the cancellation of the military parade initially scheduled to hold tomorrow and no official reason was reportedly given for this decision.

A notice signed by Abdulhakeem Adeoye on behalf of the Director, Information & Public Relations , Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, had given an update in respect of the revised schedule of events.

‘The Inter-Ministerial Committee wishes to announce the following developments on the 26th Democracy Day celebration:

1. Presidential National Broadcast on June 12, 2025, at 7 a.m.
2. No Democracy Day Parade.
3. H.E. President Bola Tinubu is to attend the National Assembly Joint Session at 12 noon.
4. Public Lecture on Democracy Day Celebration at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. Time: 4 pm.
Theme: ‘Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms’.

The committee also directed that the public lecture, which will be held at the State House Conference Centre, will be covered exclusively by accredited State House correspondents’ Adeoye had submitted.
