2023 People Democratic Party’s Gubernatorial Candidate Abdul-Azeez Adediran, known as Jandor, on Monday inaugurated an Independent Campaign Group for the party’s candidates across the 57 council areas of the state, ahead of the July 12 council polls.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Adediran, who was the PDP governorship candidate in the state in 2023, defected to the APC in March.
While inaugurating the group, he said that the idea was to mobilise support for APC candidates to emerge victorious at the polls.
Adediran reiterated his unflinching commitment to the success of the APC at all levels.
According to him, the self-sponsored ICG comprised dedicated grassroots mobilisers, loyal party members, youth volunteers, and community leaders across the 377 wards in the 57 councils and development areas of the state.
“This has been set up to galvanise massive support for all APC candidates in the forthcoming local government elections in the state,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the group was officially unveiled by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.
Speaking further, Adediran described the initiative as a continuation of his passion for grassroots development and inclusive governance.
“This campaign group is not just about politics, it is about ensuring quality representation at the grassroots, consolidating the gains of good governance, and ensuring that people choose credible leaders.
“I have taken it upon myself to fund and mobilise this initiative because I believe in the future of our state and the strength of our people,” Jandor said.
Adediran said that the group, led by 24 state apex leaders, 57 local government coordinators, and 377 ward leaders, would commence ward engagement, voter education, and door-to-door mobilisation.
He said that the group would be amplifying the party’s message of continuity, development, and responsive leadership.
While unveiling the campaign committees and coordinators, Orelope-Adefulire applauded Adediran for his commitment to the party.
While describing Jandor as a grassroots politician, the former deputy governor of the state, noted that loyal party members did not need positions before carrying out responsibilities for the party.
