Breaking News: Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun Orders Demolition of Gbenga Daniel’s Sagamu Residence, Luxury Hotel Amid Heightened Political Rivalry

Governor Dapo Abiodun-led Ogun State Government has ordered the demolition of the Sagamu residence and luxury hotel of former governor and current senator Gbenga Daniel. The demolition notice, served on Friday, August 8, gives a three-day ultimatum for removal, citing alleged planning violations for buildings constructed over 15 years ago.

This aggressive move deepens the intense political rivalry between Abiodun and Daniel, both from Ogun East Senatorial District, ahead of the 2027 general elections. While Daniel is expected to seek re-election, Governor Abiodun is widely rumored to be preparing to contest the same Senate seat, intensifying a split within the ruling APC.

Daniel’s camp maintains that all necessary permits were secured when the properties were built in 2004 and questions the legitimacy of applying a 2022 planning law retroactively. The senator is currently out of the country as the Senate is on recess.

Efforts to reach Governor Abiodun were unsuccessful, and the Secretary to the State Government declined to comment, directing inquiries to the relevant planning authority.

The demolition order recalls a similar incident last year when a property owned by Daniel’s wife was destroyed, an action later ruled unlawful by the courts. The unfolding situation highlights a bitter power struggle and growing political tensions in Ogun State ahead of the upcoming elections.
