Uyo, Akwa Ibom – August 12, 2025
A female student of the University of Uyo (UniUyo) was reportedly attacked with a machete by armed robbers at the university’s permanent site on Monday night. The incident allegedly occurred after her final examination when she refused to hand over her mobile phone.
Eyewitnesses claim the attackers ambushed students on their way out of campus, targeting phones and valuables. The victim sustained deep machete wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her condition remains unknown.
As of press time, the university and local police have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
This comes amid ongoing concerns over security on campus, with students calling for increased patrols and better lighting in vulnerable areas.
