Three exceptional students from Lagos State have been selected to represent Nigeria at the prestigious Sakura Science Programme in Tokyo, Japan, from August 17th to 23rd, 2025.
The feat is a testament to their outstanding performance at the 2024 National Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists (JETS) Competition, where Lagos State emerged as the overall winner, claiming 26 trophies and 26 medals.
The selected students are Babalola David from Brainfield College, Adesoji Tolulope, and Moses Adeseye from Lagos State Senior Model College, Meiran. They will participate in the Sakura Science Programme, which aims to bring together talented students worldwide to learn about Japan’s cutting-edge science, technology, and culture.
The Japan Science and Technology Agency will cover the students’ international round-trip, accommodation, feeding, and overseas travel insurance.
Speaking during the meeting held before their departure, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, advised the students to represent Nigeria and Africa with pride, showcasing their skills and competence in Tokyo.
She said the international recognition is a result of the students’ impressive performance at the national level, being one of the many times Lagos State students have participated in the programme.
“The State Government’s commitment to revamping education in Lagos is evident, with public schools growing in standard and capacity, drawing local and international attention”, Dokunmu=Adegbite added.
