Death Toll Rises to Eight as Rescuers Battle After Lagos Three-Storey Building Collapse

The death toll from the tragic collapse of a three-storey building in the Alakija area of Lagos State has risen to eight, while 26 people have been rescued alive from the debris. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the latest casualty figures in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu. According to the agency, the building, located on Old Ojo Road by Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town, collapsed at approximately 11:37 a.m. on Thursday, triggering a massive emergency response involving multiple rescue agencies. Providing an update on the ongoing rescue operation, Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that, as of 4:20 p.m., 26 victims had been rescued alive, while eight fatalities, including a baby girl, had been recorded. Rescue teams remain at the scene, continuing search and recovery efforts as authorities work to determine the cause of the building collapse.
