A new era of academic excellence has begun at Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Obantoko, Abeokuta, as a state-of-the-art classroom block was officially commissioned in honour of the late Alhaja Chief Amudat Ajiun Akanni. The project, facilitated by her son, Engineer Nurudeen Adeniyi Akanni, an alumnus of the school (1975/80 set), is a shining example of dedication to education and community development.
The Amudat Akanni Block, which was inaugurated on Tuesday, 25 February, 2025 by His Royal Majesty, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okekenu IV, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, boasts eight fully furnished classrooms accommodating 800 students. Each classroom is equipped with whiteboards, marker packs, and ceiling fans, ensuring a comfortable learning environment. The building also features 16 modern toilets, 8 hand-washing basins, and a 100-meter deep solar-powered borehole, guaranteeing clean water supply. Additionally, the structure is fully wired, fitted with electricity, and connected to IBEDC with a prepaid electricity meter.
This remarkable contribution is not the first by Engineer Akanni, who holds the prestigious title of Asiwaju Onimoero of Egbaland and Oluomo of Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School (title given to him by the school at the occasion). Over the years, he has donated academic materials, including sets of laptops, to enhance the school’s learning experience.
In his remarks, the Global President of Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School Old Students Association (NUDGOSA), Hon. Fasiu Bakene, expressed profound gratitude to Engineer Akanni, describing his contributions as a beacon of inspiration for other alumni. He urged past students to emulate his generosity by adopting projects that would further uplift the school.
