Dr Hassan Olajide .N., Chairman, Blood Transfusion Committee called on Epe Indigenes to donate blood to save the lives of patients who are in need of blood.
Dr Hassan, an Anaesthetist told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Epe on Monday, 13th June, 2022 that the importance of blood donations cannot be overemphasized.
He said that donating blood could help the donor in many ways. The test done helps detect some of the diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B and C and it also allows a donor to know his/her genotype and blood group status.
The Blood Transfusion Committee, General Hospital, Epe appreciated all the donors, specifically The Epe Youths Forum, The members of the Ahmadiyya society of Nigeria and the entire Epe Division who came on the second day of the World Blood Donation Week. “We indeed appreciate your kind gestures and the blood donations done by your members. May God reward you all abundantly. Amen.
According to Dr Hassan, the Hospital Management do go as far as Lagos Island in seeking for blood, even at odd hours. Such act has caused the hospital a lot.
“After several sensitisation of the Epe residents on the significance of blood donation, there has been a great Improvement in blood donations to General Hospital, Epe.
Also, Mrs Oluyeba, Motunrayo Y, Secretary of The Blood Transfusion Committee, said that there are lots of screening procedure taken before accepting blood for donation. The exercise required a lot of extra energy/effort to achieve but it was worthwhile. She expressed her delight on the massive turnout of Epe residents and also encouraged more participants and youths to patronise the hospital by donating blood regularly.

A blood donor and a community mobilizer, Mrs. Shabi Aminat disclosed that she had been donating blood over the years and she enjoyed doing so because of the significance of donating blood.
“There are lots of importance attach to blood donations, hence, requires me to be donating my blood regularly.
“I felt relief each time I donate my blood and I am always happy that I am free of diseases due to periodical check up and blood scrutiny exercise experienced before accepting my blood for donations, ” she said.
Mrs. Shabi Aminat who is also a member of General hospital Epe Blood Transfusion committee, appreciated the Lagos state government intervention on the health sector.
