The Ilara Security Force (ISF), said it had arrested four suspects for vandalizing power installations, including high tension cables in Ilara, Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Epe, Lagos State, Southwestern, Nigeria on Sunday, 1st March 2025.
Chairman of ISF, Comrade Addul-Rasaq Oladipupo Talabi, disclose this to our correspondent, in an exclusive interview on thursday, saying that the suspect confessed to the crime and narrated how they monitored when electricity supply was off before mounting their ladders and climbed to cut the high tension cables.
The suspects, identified as Innocent Victor, aged 47 years-old; Francis Asua, 43 years; Yusuf Ismaila, 45 years and Omega David, 46 years, was said to have vandalized cables located at I L O farm area of the community and were handed over to the Noforija Divisional Police Headquarters.
Talabi, who is also the Ilara Community Development Area (CDA) Chairman, described the suspect’s arrest as a significant breakthrough for the newly established ISF, in the fight against vandals and theft in the area.
He emphasized the Force’s commitment to combating vandalism and to checkmate any security threat within the Ilara community, to zero tolerance, adding that ISF will assist farmers in the farm settlement, whose produce are being stolen in the night and day time.
The ISF Chairman, appealled to the Federal Government to support the calls for the establishment of community policing, by the state governments as the policy is very important in curtailing the insecurity in the land.
Said he: “I will want the government in Nigeria to support the community policing, with the provision of operational vehicles; tricycles; motorbikes; walkie talkie and the rest.”
In his reaction, a selfless community leader, High Chief Olufemi Charles Keshinro, the Odofin of Ilara Kingdom, commended the efforts of the ISF, in arresting the vandals and cable thieves, describing the feat as a “yo man’s job!”
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect are in custody pending the conclusion of their investigation.
Recovered from the suspects is there operational vehicle, a ash coloured Toyota Corolla, with registration number: Lagos BDG 22 GX; one plier; two iron cutting saw and a hammer.
