The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has taken a significant step towards ensuring seamless traffic flow in the state with the induction of Mr. Adeniran Kasali, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, as a Special Traffic Mayor.
The induction ceremony, which took place at the Alausa Secretariat office of the Permanent Secretary, was witnessed by management of the Ministry, officers, and staff of the traffic agency. Mr. Kasali was decorated with the reflective jacket of LASTMA, symbolising his new role as a Special Traffic Mayor.
As a Special Traffic Mayor, Kasali pledged to use his wealth of experience, personal discipline, and passion for free-flowing traffic to ensure that there is a seamless traffic flow on Lagos roads.
He also assured that the era of traffic gridlock and impunity is over, thanks to the giant strides recorded in road infrastructure and the implementation of robust transport policies by the current administration.
“I am committed to using my position to promote a culture of obedience to traffic rules and regulations among the staff of the ministry and the general public,” Mr. Kasali said. “I will work closely with LASTMA officials to ensure that our roads are free from traffic congestion and that motorists and residents can move around the state without stress and within a timely frame.”
The Head of the Traffic Mayor Unit of LASTMA, Jimmy Awoyemi, stated that the induction of top government officials as Special Traffic Mayors is part of the agency’s strategy to enlist the support and cooperation of key stakeholders in sustaining the current sanity on Lagos roads.
“We are determined to leave no stone unturned in our efforts to ensure that Lagos roads are free from traffic congestion,” Mr. Awoyemi said. “We believe that with the support of our Special Traffic Mayors, we can achieve our goal of making Lagos a model for efficient traffic management in Nigeria.”
The induction of Mr. Kasali as a Special Traffic Mayor is a significant milestone in LASTMA’s efforts to promote a culture of obedience to traffic rules and regulations in Lagos State. It is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s traffic management system and contribute to the overall development of the state.
