A Non governmental organization, LEYOSA, in collaboration with the NYCN Eredo chapter, organized a sensitization talk in EREDO local government areas of lagos state to mark this year’s international day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
They also took the campaign to some secondary schools in the areas . Founder of the NGO, Amb. Kadri Abiola Morgan, in his remarks cautioned against drug abuse , warning that it was destructive to health.
He said : ” 26th June every year is set aside by the United nations to raise the conversation on drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking. The day provides the opportunity for civil society groups in collaboration with NYCN Eredo Chapter to brainstorm and drive home the danger of substance abuse amongst youths in the society
Drug abuse is a menace that is destructive and has a close link with criminality. The international event goes to show the global commitment towards its eradication from the society.
“Involving teenagers in the fight against the scourge is a strategic initiative to catch them young to get enlightened and serve as ambassadors of a sane society that is free from drug abuse and drug related crimes.”
He also lauded Amb. Ogunbanwo Ibraheem for its commitment towards eradication of the scourge .
The Coordinator of NYCN Eredo Chapter, Amb. Ogunbanwo Ibraheem also harped on the dangers of drug abuse
“The damages of drug abuse to society are very clear as it robs the nation of youthful potentials for its growth, it is a huge contributor to crimes. I call for actions to strengthen prevention, support recovery and stand united against the threat of illicit drugs. I also advise parents to monitor their children against substance abuse so they do not destroy their future,” he said.
Students and other participants thanked LEYOSA and NYCN Eredo Chapter for the sensitization programme , promising to sustain the campaign.
