Nigeria has lost one of its most distinguished boardroom giants and cultural icons as Otunba Adekunle Ojora passed on peacefully at the age of 93, leaving behind an enduring legacy of excellence, service, and quiet influence.

Otunba Ojora was a man of many remarkable dimensions. Trained as a journalist, he studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic and began his professional journey with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), where he rose to the position of Assistant Editor—a testament to his intellect, discipline, and global outlook.

A proud bearer of the revered Yoruba chieftaincy title “Otunba,” he was deeply rooted in tradition and culture. His connection to the Ojora royal lineage, one of Lagos’ most prominent royal houses, further cemented his role as a bridge between heritage and modern leadership.

Widely respected in Nigeria’s elite social and business circles, Otunba Ojora was known as a high-profile socialite, cultural ambassador, and discreet power broker whose influence was felt without loud political ambition. He deliberately stayed away from elective politics, choosing instead to contribute through business leadership, cultural advocacy, and behind-the-scenes advisory roles.

As an investor per excellence, Otunba Ojora had equity interests in notable local and international companies including Bowring Group, Inchcape, Schlumberger, Phoenix Assurance, UTC Nigeria, Evans Brothers, and Seven-Up, among others. His business acumen helped shape corporate confidence and investment culture in Nigeria.

Beyond boardrooms, he was a committed philanthropist, supporting community development, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation—particularly across Lagos and Ogun States. His passion for Yoruba traditions and values was evident in his active participation in festivals, chieftaincy ceremonies, and heritage events.

Otunba Adekunle Ojora is survived by his wife, Erelu Ojuolape, and their daughter, Toyin Saraki, alongside a wide network of family, friends, protégés, and admirers whose lives he touched in profound ways.

As Nigeria reflects on his life, Otunba Ojora will be remembered as a gentle statesman, cultural custodian, accomplished investor, and a man whose legacy was built on dignity, service, and lasting impact.

May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come.
