The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the 6th Chancellor of the University.

The appointment follows the successful completion of the tenure of Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who served meritoriously as the 5th Chancellor. The Lagos State Government and the entire University community express deep appreciation for his invaluable contributions, exemplary leadership, and the dignity with which he represented the institution throughout his tenure.

The appointment was made pursuant to the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (As amended), Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1, which empowers the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor of the University.

His Royal Majesty’s appointment is for a single term of five (5) years, effective from Friday, 13th February 2026, and is renewable once in accordance with the law.

The Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Senate, Management, staff, students, and the entire University community warmly congratulate HRM Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo on this distinguished appointment. The University looks forward to his impactful leadership and royal guidance in advancing the vision, mission, and global standing of Lagos State University.
