The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a TikTok user identified as Mirabel following the conclusion of preliminary investigations into her viral allegations of rape and assault.

Mirabel had earlier taken to social media claiming she was raped, assaulted with a blade, and forced to ingest poison by an unidentified man. The disturbing claims quickly gained traction online, sparking widespread outrage and public concern.

However, according to police findings, investigations revealed significant inconsistencies in her account. Neighbours reportedly observed no signs of forced entry, disturbance, or distress at the time of the alleged incident. Witness accounts indicated she appeared calm when leaving her residence with a man prior to the claims going viral.

Further inquiries, including phone record analysis and message reviews, reportedly did not corroborate her version of events. Authorities also disclosed that she declined to undergo comprehensive medical and forensic examinations offered by law enforcement and partnering NGOs.

Based on the findings, the police confirmed that Mirabel was detained for allegedly providing false information, wasting police resources, and attempting to pervert the course of justice. Officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.

The Command reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigating all reports of sexual assault and violence, while warning that deliberate false allegations undermine genuine victims and divert critical resources.

Meanwhile, Mirabel’s TikTok account has been set to private, with several related videos deleted. Reports also indicate that some individuals who donated funds following her initial claims are demanding refunds.

The Ogun State Police Command urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to allow due process to take its course.

Further updates will be communicated as investigations progress.
