Just In: Epe LG Restricts Okada and Tricycle Operations to 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM to Strengthen Security

In a decisive move aimed at enhancing security and safeguarding residents, the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, FHTI, has announced a restriction on the operations of commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders) and commercial tricycle operators within the council area. The directive, which takes immediate effect, limits the operations of both Okada and tricycle operators to the hours of 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM daily. Hon. Animashaun made the announcement during a high-level Stakeholders’ Meeting on Security held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the Council Chamber, Itamarun, Epe. The meeting brought together key security agencies, including representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Ibile Security Team, and various local vigilante groups. According to the Chairman, the decision followed security assessments and intelligence reports, as well as the need to proactively prevent criminal activities often perpetrated using motorcycles and tricycles. Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Animashaun emphasized that the restriction is part of a broader strategy to ensure public safety and maintain peace across the local government area. «“Henceforth, Okada riders and tricycle operators’ operations are restricted to 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM in Epe Local Government. Anyone found riding or driving an Okada or tricycle after 10:00 PM will be arrested, and the motorcycle or tricycle will be impounded,” she stated.» The Chairman further explained that encouraging residents to return home early would assist security operatives in effectively monitoring movements at night and identifying suspicious activities. She also advised traders and business owners who usually operate late into the night to adjust their schedules in line with the new security directive, warning that anyone found loitering or conducting activities beyond the stipulated time may be questioned or arrested by security personnel. Security stakeholders at the meeting unanimously welcomed the initiative, describing it as a proactive measure to protect lives and property. The Commanding Officer of the Military Cantonment, Epe, Lt. Col. Enye, alongside the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Epe Division, ASP Benjamin, and other security chiefs, outlined additional security measures and urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The restriction forms part of the Epe Local Government administration’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents, businesses, and visitors, while maintaining the peace and stability for which Epe is widely known. Residents have been encouraged to comply fully with the directive and support security agencies in their efforts to keep the community safe.
