Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Afeez Abiodun, widely known as Afeez Owo, has paid a heartfelt tribute to his late mother-in-law and veteran actress, Funmi Martins, revealing how her extraordinary generosity changed the course of his life and career.
Speaking during a recent interview, Afeez Owo recounted that his journey to success took a major turn after meeting the late actress on a movie set, where he served as the production coordinator. Impressed by his dedication and professionalism, Funmi Martins entrusted him with coordinating her upcoming Yoruba movie project.
According to Afeez, Funmi Martins made history by featuring the late Fuji legend, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, in one of her movies—a move that generated widespread attention and made the production a huge success.
Following the premiere of the movie at the National Theatre, the production realized a total of ₦850,000. After Afeez handed over the proceeds, Funmi Martins shared the earnings among her family members and relatives before surprising him with ₦400,000 in appreciation of his outstanding work.
The actor described the gesture as life-changing, explaining that he invested the money in producing his debut Yoruba film, Majen Siwon Waye, a project that launched his successful career in the Nigerian movie industry.
Reflecting on her kindness, Afeez Owo expressed profound gratitude, saying the late actress’s generosity remains one of the greatest blessings of his life.
