The Lagos State Government has taken another significant step towards strengthening the education sector with the presentation of appointment letters to 992 newly recruited teachers by the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM). The appointment ceremony, held as part of the state’s commitment to improving the quality of education, is aimed at addressing the increasing demand for qualified teachers, filling staffing gaps in core science and technical subjects, and enhancing teaching and learning across public secondary schools. Speaking at the event, the Chairman of TESCOM, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, congratulated the successful applicants for emerging through a rigorous recruitment process and urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. She charged the new teachers to remain committed to the ethics and values of the teaching profession, describing them as ambassadors of the Lagos State Government. According to her, the recruitment exercise is essential to ensuring that public secondary schools across the state continue to have qualified and competent teachers. Mrs. Peregrino noted that Lagos, with one of the fastest-growing populations in Africa, must consistently replace retired and exited teachers to prevent classroom overcrowding and maintain quality education. She encouraged the new education officers to understand the strengths and challenges of their students, adopt innovative teaching methods, integrate technology into classroom instruction, embrace continuous professional development, and apply effective, non-violent disciplinary measures. She also stressed the importance of professionalism, diligence, hard work, and proper dressing. Also addressing the teachers, TESCOM Board Member representing Ikeja Division, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, and the Commission’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olawale Ojikutu, warned against all forms of student bullying and sexual molestation, emphasizing the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance policy on such misconduct. They urged the recruits to remain punctual, dedicated, and committed to delivering quality education. Speaking on behalf of the newly recruited teachers, Mr. Orire Ajayi Samuel expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to serve, pledging that the new teachers would be worthy ambassadors of the state and discharge their responsibilities with dedication and integrity.
