LAGOSIANS DEMAND URGENT INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED CHALLENGES IN GENERAL HOSPITALS

Concerns are mounting among some Lagos residents over the state of healthcare delivery in various General Hospitals across Lagos State, with calls for the state government to urgently investigate reported complaints and address any identified shortcomings.

The concerns come amid renewed scrutiny of the administration of healthcare services under Professor Akin Abayomi, who has served as Lagos State Commissioner for Health since 2019.

Some Lagosians have expressed dissatisfaction with what they describe as recurring challenges in certain General Hospitals, including alleged poor service delivery and other issues they say require immediate attention from the relevant authorities.

While the specific complaints vary from one facility to another, concerned residents are asking a fundamental question: Who is effectively monitoring activities and service delivery across Lagos State General Hospitals?

The residents stressed that healthcare is a critical component of governance and that the government must ensure that public hospitals provide safe, accessible, efficient and dignified medical services to residents.

They therefore called on the Lagos State Government to establish an independent and comprehensive review of the situation across its General Hospitals, engage healthcare workers and patients, and make the findings public where appropriate.

The call is also for stronger monitoring mechanisms, improved accountability and prompt action whenever complaints are found to have merit.

According to the concerned residents, Lagosians deserve better healthcare, and every resident who visits a government hospital should be treated with professionalism, respect and compassion.

They appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other relevant stakeholders to listen to the concerns being raised by residents and take decisive steps to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.

The residents maintained that the objective is not merely to apportion blame, but to ensure that Lagos’ public healthcare system meets the expectations of the people and provides quality services to those who depend on it.

Enough is enough. Lagosians deserve a healthcare system they can trust.
