A tenant has expressed shock and distress after allegedly discovering that the remains of his landlord’s late father had been buried inside the living room of the house he rented—without his knowledge.
According to the tenant, he had lived in the newly built house for more than a year and was the first tenant to occupy the property. He said he only became aware of the burial when members of his landlord’s family reportedly visited the house and informed him that they wanted to exhume the remains and relocate them to another prepared burial site.
“I rented a house that someone was buried inside the living room and I didn’t know,” the tenant said.
He explained that the family told him the deceased was the father of his landlord and that the remains had been buried directly beneath the living-room area.
The tenant said the family also promised to carry out repairs on the living room after the exhumation.
The discovery has reportedly left him deeply shocked, particularly because he had been living and sleeping in the house for over a year without knowing that a burial had taken place beneath the living-room floor.
The incident has raised questions about transparency between landlords and tenants, particularly concerning information that could materially affect a person’s decision to rent a property.
