Lagostrend Popular content creator MC Mbakara has opened up on why he did not attend the much-talked-about wedding ceremony of TikTok stars Peller and Jarvis, citing what he described as “disrespectful” conditions attached to attending the event.
Speaking on the issue, MC Mbakara said his decision was based on principle rather than personal differences with the couple.
According to him, he was informed that invited guests were expected to purchase the official aso ebi before receiving an invitation to the wedding. He also claimed that those who chose not to buy the attire would be required to pay before they could obtain an invitation card.
Reacting to the arrangement, the veteran content creator said he found the conditions inappropriate, especially considering his age and status.
«”This is the reason I did not attend Peller and Jarvis’ wedding ceremony. First, I’m a senior man. You can’t tell me to buy aso ebi. At my age, a chief, that’s disrespectful. Then I was told that if I didn’t buy the aso ebi, I would have to pay to get an IV. I told him that wasn’t right. I could decide to give you $5,000 on your wedding day, but saying I must buy the aso ebi before I can get an invitation doesn’t make sense,” he said.»
His remarks have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians sharing differing opinions. While some agreed that invitations to weddings should not be tied to compulsory purchases, others argued that couples have the right to organize their events in whatever manner they choose.
Neither Peller nor Jarvis has publicly responded to MC Mbakara’s claims as of the time of filing this report.
The controversy has further fueled conversations about modern wedding traditions, the growing culture of compulsory aso ebi, and whether guests should be required to make financial commitments before being invited to celebrate with family and friends.
