  • IKOSI-EJINRIN LCDA HOLDS BID OPENING FOR OLD OTTA/LAGBEJA, RALA-OSHOKEJI ROAD PROJECTS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO TRANSPARENT GOVERNANCE

The Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has taken another significant step towards improving rural infrastructure and strengthening community development with the official bid opening ceremony for the proposed construction of the Old Otta/Lagbeja Road and Rala-Oshokeji Road in Ketu.

The exercise, held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the Council Secretariat in Agbowa, demonstrated the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and due process in the execution of public projects.

The ceremony was declared open by the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Akogun Wale Anomo, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Dehinsilu.

Speaking at the event, Dehinsilu described the proposed road projects as strategic infrastructure interventions under the administration’s THRIVES Agenda, designed to improve road connectivity, ease transportation challenges and stimulate economic activities across communities within the council area.

He noted that the projects reflect the administration’s determination to address infrastructure needs and create an enabling environment for residents, traders, farmers and other economic stakeholders to thrive.

The Council Manager, Mr. Sunday Awobajo, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining transparency and adhering strictly to established procurement procedures in the award and implementation of public contracts.

Similarly, the Head of Unit, Procurement, Mr. Agoro Wale, coordinated the technical and procurement procedures throughout the bid opening exercise, ensuring that the process was conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.

FOUR CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES PARTICIPATE IN BIDDING

Four construction companies participated in the bidding exercise, namely O&S Nigeria Limited, Ogbodo Civil Engineering Nigeria Limited, Construction 7 and DP Engineering Nigeria Limited.

In keeping with the principles of open and accountable governance, the bids were publicly opened, read aloud and documented in the presence of relevant stakeholders.

The exercise represents a key milestone in the procurement process, bringing the proposed road construction projects closer to implementation, subject to the completion of the required evaluation and approval procedures.

PROJECTS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

According to the project specifications presented during the exercise, the proposed Old Otta/Lagbeja Road will cover approximately 693 metres, while the Rala-Oshokeji Road in Ketu will span approximately 550 metres.

Both roads are designed to have a width of eight metres, with drainage facilities on both sides and provisions for solar-powered street lighting.

When completed, the projects are expected to improve accessibility, facilitate the movement of people and goods, enhance drainage infrastructure and contribute to safer and more convenient transportation for residents and road users.

The inclusion of drainage facilities is also intended to support effective water management along the roads, while the proposed solar lighting provisions are designed to improve visibility and support safer movement after dark.

For communities that depend on accessible road networks for commercial activities, transportation and everyday movement, the proposed interventions represent an important step towards improved infrastructure and sustainable development.

NEXT STEP: EVALUATION AND CONTRACTOR MOBILISATION

The council stated that all submitted bids would undergo the necessary evaluation in accordance with applicable procurement procedures.

Following the completion of the evaluation process and the required approvals, the successful and qualified contractor will be mobilised to the project site to commence work.

The council’s approach underscores the importance of following due process to ensure that public infrastructure projects are awarded through established procedures and delivered in line with approved specifications.

ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS THE THRIVES DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

The bid opening exercise forms part of the broader infrastructure development drive of the administration of Akogun Wale Anomo, which continues to prioritise improved accessibility, community growth and sustainable development through its THRIVES Agenda.

By advancing the procurement process for the Old Otta/Lagbeja and Rala-Oshokeji road projects, the administration is working towards addressing critical infrastructure needs and improving connectivity across communities within Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA.

Residents and stakeholders will look forward to the successful completion of the procurement process and the eventual commencement of construction, which could further strengthen transportation links and support economic opportunities across the council area.

The development also reinforces the importance of transparent governance, responsible public spending and strategic infrastructure investment in building stronger and more accessible communities.
