The Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stated that Mr. Peter Obi remains welcome to return to the Labour Party should he fail to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking amid ongoing political realignments and speculations ahead of the next general elections, Datti Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the Labour Party maintains respect for democratic choices and internal party processes, noting that the party’s ideology and structure remain intact regardless of individual political movements.

According to him, the Labour Party has not shut its doors to any of its leaders or members who explore other political platforms, stressing that Peter Obi’s political relevance and contributions to national discourse are well recognized.

    > “Obi is free to be welcomed back to the Labour Party if he does not secure the presidential ticket in ADC,” Datti Baba-Ahmed stated.

However, the statement has sparked reactions among party supporters and political observers. A concerned supporter, reacting to the development, cautioned against treating the former Anambra State governor as a political bargaining tool.

    > “You guys can’t use my man as a social ball,” the supporter said, reflecting growing sentiments among Obi’s loyal base who insist that his political future should not be reduced to speculation or tactical maneuvering.

Analysts say the comment underscores rising tensions within Nigeria’s opposition politics, as parties position themselves ahead of forthcoming elections. Many believe that Peter Obi’s next move will significantly influence voter alignment, particularly among youths and urban voters.

As political consultations continue, stakeholders have called for decorum, clarity, and respect for individual political agency, urging parties to focus on policies, governance, and national development rather than political speculation.
