The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a nursing student, Stella Joseph, in connection with the sudden death of Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede, a lecturer at Federal Polytechnic, Bida.
The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred on January 27, 2026, in Minna, Niger State. According to preliminary reports, the lecturer had visited the residence of the student, where he was served a meal of spaghetti and egg. Shortly after eating, he allegedly began convulsing and collapsed.
He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the body of the deceased has been deposited for medical examination to determine the exact cause of death. He assured the public that a thorough and transparent investigation is currently underway and that both families involved have been duly informed.
The Police Command also clarified earlier reports that mistakenly linked the deceased to Newgate University, affirming that he was a lecturer at Federal Polytechnic, Bida.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while investigations continue. The Niger State Police Command reiterated its commitment to uncovering the facts surrounding the incident and ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law.
